Dior has announced that Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Menswear, has designed ensembles for BTS to wear onstage during their upcoming world tour.

This is the first time that Dior has created men’s stage wear for a pop band. A global music sensation, the seven-member South Korean boy band has sold over 10 million albums since debut, became the first-ever Korean act nominated for a Grammy, landed the top spot on the Billboard 200 and Social 50 charts multiple times, and was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential in 2019.

Having met Kim Jones earlier this year, the members of BTS discovered a shared appreciation of the designer’s fresh, refined yet playful aesthetic for Dior menswear, not to mention an affinity for his signature hybrid of couture savoir-faire and cutting-edge technology echoing their own universe. “I love BTS because they are really great guys and also super into fashion. Everyone I know is kind of crazy about them!”, shared Kim Jones, the Artistic Director of Dior Menswear.

This creative alchemy led to the creation of a series of seven stage costumes for the band based on the modern and utilitarian sportswear silhouettes of his men’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection and its futuristic spirit.

BTS, an acronym of Bangtan Sonyeondan or “Beyond the Scene”, is a South Korean boy band that is capturing the hearts of millions of fans globally. The members of BTS are RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and, Jung Kook. Gaining recognition from their authentic, self-produced music and top-notch performances to the way they interact with their fans, the band is well on their way to becoming a global icon since they debuted in June 2013.

Bombers, cargo pants and a military-inspired sweater mix together with pieces with a sportswear spirit, evoking the group’s hybrid allure. The through-line of this collaboration, shiny and lamé fabrics embody the collection’s retro-futuristic aesthetic. Metallic denim jackets pair with a bomber strewn with cherry blossoms, interlaced with dinosaur robots designed by Hajime Sorayama.

The House’s emblematic signature, the Dior Oblique canvas, dons a leopard camouflage and crops up on jackets, bob hats and caps. Buckles designed by Matthew Williams, the creative director of 1017 ALYX 9SM, lend a utilitarian touch to pockets, harnesses and shoes – sneakers and combat boots that combine lightness and technical sophistication. As a final touch to these stage outfits, imposing industrial-style chains created by Yoon Ahn – decorated with locks, nuts and bolts – mingle with rings.

BTS will unveiled the looks at the kick off of their worldwide stadium tour, LOVE YOURSELF: SPEAK YOURSELF, in Los Angeles on May 4th, followed by performances in cities including London, Paris and São Paolo.
