There’s a certain image that comes to mind when one thinks of a Gucci bag, but perhaps none comes as close as what becomes of the mix of contrasting elements that shape the new Gucci Zumi bag. This time around, it isn’t covered in a statement element nor shaped to grab the attention. It’s somewhat of a classic, exceptionally ladylike with that boxy silhouette and single top handle, displaying a shiny hardware that merged Gucci’s classic horsebit with the brand’s interlocking G motifs.

Alessandro Michele replicated the gold and silver-coloured metal hardware from a rare piece in the Gucci archives, which appealed to the designer for its contemporary quality. Gucci Zumi is crafted in smooth, grainy and lustrous python, ostrich, lizard and crocodile leathers, and comes with a diverse silhouettes – a shoulder bag, a top handle and a mini top handle.

The bag took its name from experimental musician and actress, Zumi Rosow, who walked the Gucci Spring/Summer 2019 runway in Paris towards the end of last year with the bag in hand. Rosow, who is known in punk rock circles as the saxophonist of The Black Lips, is unconventional and modern in her style and being, and is said to embody Alessandro Michele’s vision of beauty; one that is inextricably linked to an individual’s personality and attitude.

With that sense of a free spirit, Gucci Zumi medium top handle bag comes in twelve variations, including dark green crocodile, black snakeskin and white grainy leather. Elegant, effortless and timeless, the bag comes with a detachable strap that creates multi-functionality, wherein it could double as a shoulder bag. The top handle bag also comes in smaller size.

Aside from the classic looks, Gucci Zumi also features a variant of the Strawberry print, in the form of a pouch, a zip around wallet, a top handle bag, card cases and a mini bag. It’s the extra Gucci touch that is sure to stun the passerby, as striking as it is sweet. Could this be the brand’s latest It bag? To learn more about Gucci Zumi, visit http://www.gucci.com.
